Dero Christensen solo exhibition
October 15 - November 30, 2025
Returning to Dorado 806 as both artist-in-residence and exhibiting artist, Dero Christensen presents The Great Human Masquerade — his second solo show with the space — a playful, if not optimistic reflection on current and ancient societies balancing consciousness with biological instinct.
Dero Christensen (b.1989 Laguna Hills, CA) is a self-described optimist and artist whose colorful approach to oil and acrylic painting integrates a spectrum of patterns and palettes. While largely self taught, his artistic essence draws upon his travels and a healthy appetite for worldly folk design. Nomadic by nature, Christensen finds kinship in the sea, but currently resides and works in Phoenix, AZ.
“My work represents a playful, if not optimistic perception of current and ancient societies balancing consciousness with biological instincts. Through absurdist eyes- I find inspiration in the human endurance transitioning from a natural wildness to a modern industrial mind. Constantly contemplating the benefits and downfalls of human mindfulness in a time of perceived progress, the portrayals and themes meander with the seesaw of contemplative thought.
With oil, acrylic and textures, I emphasize expressive patterns, high saturated colors and godlike symbolism to create a version of folk art not dissimilar from myself- riddled with ironic idealism of philosophic leisure, nostalgia and whimsical escape.”
